What is Krillion?

Krillion is a quiz about finding a correct answer that is less familiar. Instead of looking for one answer everyone knows, you read an open question and name something that fits. Several answers may be right. The challenge is to think beyond the first one that comes to mind while staying inside the rules of the question.

In the official daily Krillion game, everyone receives the same seven questions. A familiar correct answer can still count, while a less familiar one may take you deeper into the ocean. Because the daily set is shared, friends can compare how they approached the same questions, even when they chose different answers.

QuizCubby is an independent guide to Krillion and other daily games. You can also play QuizCubby Dive here: our own practice quiz has different questions, answers and scoring from the original Krillion game.

How to play Krillion

Read the full question first. Some questions ask for a person, place or thing; others add a condition, such as a particular country, sport or period of time. Your answer needs to satisfy the whole question. A name that belongs to a related category is not enough if it misses an important restriction.

Think of an answer you are confident is correct. Then ask yourself whether you know another correct answer that is less obvious. Type your choice and submit it while there is still time. The game will show whether it accepts the answer and how it scores. At the end of the round, look back at the choices you made and compare your result with friends.

There is a trade-off in every question: a familiar answer may be safe, while a less familiar answer may score more. An unusual-sounding guess is not automatically better. If you cannot tell whether it fits the category, a correct answer you know is often the more useful choice. Our step-by-step Krillion guide walks through that decision in more detail.

A rare-answer example

Imagine a question asking you to name an ocean. Many people may think of the Pacific or Atlantic first. The Indian, Arctic and Southern oceans are also correct possibilities. Before you answer, you can consider which of the oceans you know might be less obvious to someone else.

This example comes from the QuizCubby Dive practice question bank. In our game, Pacific and Atlantic are labelled common, Indian is uncommon, and Arctic and Southern are rare. Those labels are assigned in QuizCubby’s own answer list. They are an illustration of how our game scores; they do not predict how official Krillion rates an answer or what appears in today’s puzzle.

The same thinking can help with other categories. If a question asks for a country, check that you have named a country rather than a city. If it asks for a sportsperson who meets a condition, make sure the person meets that condition before choosing the least familiar name you know. Accuracy comes first.

How does Krillion scoring work?

Krillion rewards answers the game considers less familiar. A common answer is not necessarily wrong; it may simply earn a smaller result than an accepted rare answer. The ocean theme turns that difference into a visual journey: as you score, your dive takes you deeper.

Longer words do not automatically score more. Neither does an answer become rare just because it is difficult to spell. The useful question is whether your choice is correct and how that particular game rates it. Official Krillion and QuizCubby Dive use separate answer lists, so the same word can receive a different result in each.

Official Krillion gathers and checks answers against its own lists. For the score that counts in an official daily round, follow the result shown by that game. The points in the practice example below belong only to QuizCubby Dive.

QuizCubby Dive: practise as often as you like

QuizCubby Dive is our own free rare-answer game. It has 200 questions, and each round deals seven of them. You have 25 seconds per question: type one answer and press Dive. If an answer is not recognised, you can try another while the clock is still running. You can play again without an account or a daily limit.

In this practice game, a common answer earns 100 points, an uncommon answer earns 250, a rare answer earns 500 and a legendary answer earns 1,000. If time runs out before an answer is accepted, the question earns zero. One point becomes one meter of depth, so 250 points sends your diver to 250 meters.

For example, on our ocean question, Pacific earns 100 points, Indian earns 250 and Southern earns 500. You only submit one accepted answer for that question. At the end of seven questions, the game adds your points, shows your final depth and lets you copy the result. These numbers are QuizCubby’s rules; they are not the official Krillion scoring system.

Daily Krillion, official Unlimited and practice

Choose the official Krillion Daily when you want the same set of questions as everyone else that day. It is the useful option for comparing a shared puzzle with a friend: you can discuss which answers came to mind and where you chose a safer or less obvious response.

The original Krillion also has an Unlimited option. Its modes and availability are separate from QuizCubby, which has its own independent practice game.

Choose QuizCubby Dive when you want another round in our separate practice game. Its questions and scores do not transfer to official Krillion. Think of practice as a way to build the habit of naming several valid answers, rather than a way to reproduce the official daily board. Our Krillion overview compares the available options.

Five practical tips for finding a better answer

  1. Read every condition. Check whether the question asks for a country, a city, a person or a specific kind of item. One overlooked word can change which answers are valid.
  2. Start with a safe answer. Identify one choice you know fits. It gives you a fallback while you consider other possibilities.
  3. Think of two or three alternatives. Your first thought may be the first thought of many other players. Another answer you know well could be less obvious.
  4. Keep the answer clear. Use a straightforward name or an alternative that the game recognises. Adding extra details does not necessarily make an answer rarer.
  5. Leave time to submit. A correct answer only helps if you enter it before the round ends. If a choice is rejected and the game allows another attempt, use the remaining time to try again.

After a game, review the questions where you knew several possible answers. Ask which choices were accepted and how they scored in that particular game. You do not need to memorise a single perfect response: the useful skill is moving between a familiar answer and another correct option that you can name with confidence.

Why was a correct answer rejected?

A correct answer can still be missing from a game’s list. It might also be written in a form the game does not recognise, or it might fail a condition you missed in the question. A rejection does not by itself prove that the underlying fact is wrong.

Check the wording and spelling first. If there is still time, try another clear name for the same answer, or use a different answer you know fits. Official Krillion explains that its answer lists can contain alternative names and that some valid answers may be missing. QuizCubby Dive also accepts some listed alternatives, but it has a finite list and will not recognise every wording.

In QuizCubby Dive, an unrecognised answer does not immediately end the question. The message asks you to try another and the timer continues. If time reaches zero before an answer is accepted, that question scores zero. This retry and scoring description applies to our game; use the feedback on the official site for its own modes.

Krillion vs Noillirk: reverse the goal

Noillirk turns the goal around. In Krillion, you look for a less common correct answer. In Noillirk, you try to predict what most people would say; the most common answer earns the highest score. Its name is Krillion spelled backwards, a useful reminder that your strategy needs to change too.

Consider a question asking people to name something they often lose. In a rare-answer quiz, you might look for an unusual item that still fits. In Noillirk, you would think about the everyday answer a broad group of people is likely to give first. Both approaches start with a valid response, but they reward opposite choices.

Our Noillirk daily guide provides hints and available answers. Its Classic and Endless guide explains the original game’s other modes.

Where should a new player start?

For a shared challenge, Krillion Daily gives everyone the same questions. If you are learning, choose answers you know are correct, watch how the game responds and pay attention to the difference between an accepted common answer and an accepted rare one.
